Guiding Principles

3 individual circles.png

Every Drop is Valuable or Preventable

Water may not always be drinkable, but it still valuable somewhere, for something.

Charters + Policy

3 individual circles.png

1. No individually distributed water

All water access should arrive through drinking stations.

2. No nasty chemicals

water systems should not be contaminated with chemicals or other products that
make the water unable to be reused.

3. Circular toilet systems

consider the value of all inputs and outputs of toilet systems.

Phases for implementation are developed with reference to the planning, delivery and post-festival stages. We have ranked each step by impact and effort, to help you prioritise resourcing and investment in the objective.

Drinking Stations

1. promote BYO drink bottle

2. utilise drinking stations over packaged water

3. utilise existing water supply on site if any, otherwise transport stations on site.

consider motion-detected drinking stations, or ways to capture and redistribute water missed from running tap:

for example, produce planting station below to capture run-off.

2.

5.

Consider Minimising Water Use in Production Life Cycles of Festival

1. consider the water footprint of food items (view food in circular model here)

2. consider water footprint of merchandise (particularly where cotton is the material)

Circular Toilet Systems

Dry composting toilets are the most successful way to mitigate waste and produce a high value output that
can be used.

In least waste produced order:

 1. existing infrastructure for composting toilets (dry);
2. temporary composting toilets (dry)
3. existing grey water toilet systems
4. temporary grey water toilet systems (and sustainable pumping)

1.

p2

Promote Considerate Use of Water

Marketing to encourage patrons to consider water usage.

7.

Sourcing of Toilet Paper

use biodegradable or compostable toilet paper that is sustainably sourced and made (unbleached).

6.

Close the poop loop

manage or engage third-party to manage waste from toilets; preferred method through composting on site (more on waste here)

p3

Create Resourcing Efficiencies

pooling transportation of resources and waste to and from festival location.
