Guiding Principles
Circular Energy
source energy sustainably and from renewable sources
Reduce
less offsetting is required if less energy is used in the first place
Reimagine
technology is on our side

Charters + Policy
1. 100% commitment to renewables
using renewable power is the most effective way to reduce CO2 footprint from energy
2. Clear communication and planning
calculate energy requirements per vendor/artist
3. Efficient systems and appliances
incorporate new, energy efficient systems & appliances in all areas of the event. Consider alternatives including hybrid systems where energy requirements are high

in detail
Phases for implementation are developed with reference to the planning, delivery and post-festival stages. We have ranked each step by impact and effort, to help you prioritise resourcing and investment in the objective.

p1
Site Selection (urban or regional)
Select location (if the festival is urban, mains electricity is best option if it is sourced from renewables (e.g. hydro in Tasmania). Mains also eliminates excess/unused power that generators incur.
Regional festivals may require generator energy as opposed to mains power supply.

2.
Light Installations
-
Preference LED alternatives, or;
-
Solar/ hybrid tower lights ( built in solar panels or batteries system that can run on 90% stored battery energy and 10% generator fuel;
- 72% fuel savings
- 4x increase run time on single diesel tank

Vendor Power Supply
-
consider interactive or shared opportunities (large shared cooking space as opposed to separate kitchen stations per stall
-
Incentivise vendors to use less power through reducing cost of stall

Renewable Energy
consider transportable solar tarpaulins (installed on site well in advance of event) or (in order)
-
wind turbines
-
biodiesel
-
hybrid appliances
-
(avoid diesel generators at all costs)
p2
Overnight Generator
consider running a small secondary hybrid/solar generator for overnight standby for equipment that needs to be left on.
